Would you grow a baby in your living room? If this were an option, would it change your mind about wanting a child? Let’s say you want children – what if in the future it became advised to have children only via incubators a la Brave New World. Would that change your mind in the other direction?
Even if I didn’t have the emotional maturity of a teenager and I could actually look after myself in a meaningful way– the idea of carrying a child inside of me feels almost violating. I can’t help but think of Sigourney Weaver in that scene from Alien. With rising pregnancy mortality rates for Black American women, it’s easy to see how a device like this would transform the lives of so many.
This incubator is only a concept but it’s beautiful to imagine a future where something like this would be possible. I just wonder what would happen if my cat or an earthquake knocked the incubator over…
100% would. The worst thing of having kids is pregnancy and child birth. It’s even so bad that I would feel too guilty to ask a surrogate to do it even if it would be an option.
Pregnancy takes at least a year out of your life. It destroys your body and mind. It’s deeply traumatizing. If only I could just grow kids in this, lol. There would be no reclining birth rate anymore.
