Scout Culture In Japan.
"If a handsome young man approaches you in Tokyo and tells you that you are beautiful, he is trying to sell you into the sex industry for the commission, sis!"
A week or so ago I made a tongue in cheek post about the type of men likely to approach you while living in Tokyo.
I realized that many Westerners don’t know about “Scout” culture in the seedy part of Japanese culture.
Scouts are young men(and very rarely women, too) who work for the Japanese adult entertainment industry. They’re headhunters who prowl the streets of Tokyo looking for young women to seduce. Many of them straight up tell you what they’re about and try to lure you with promises of large & fast cash. Some of them are more insidious and pretend to actually want to date you.
It’s a right of passage for every young woman living in Tokyo to be approached by them. In my Youtube video I talk about scouts, my experiences with them and the industry at a whole. There’s been a few measures in Japan to try and prevent these men but the syndicates they work for are often too powerful. I’m vehemently against men making money off the backs of a woman, it’s the lowest thing a man could do. So watch my video about the Scout industry and let me know what you think?
Scouts aren’t all bad. Sometimes it’s like in Shinjuku Swan, if women are already looking for a night life job, they can be very helpful. The infamous “Vanilla” and “15navi” trucks also introduce women to night jobs, but they will not introduce to high end establishments so women can not reach their full earning potential.
Telling a scout exactly what you look for can be very mutually beneficial if he is good at his job, so I wouldn’t totally knock them.
There have been a lot less scouts in recent years though. Covid probably plays a roll, but also very prominent is the Twitter Killer case. While it’s not really related to the case, the guy did some scout work before becoming a murderer, so that gave them an even worse reputation than they already have.
Also they tend not to approach foreigners much nowadays.
I’d say hosts are worse people than scouts but they can still be fun, as long as you don’t believe anything they say. Be in control. Realize you’re a paying customer and not a girlfriend.
