This is an eloquent reframe of the negative backlash. Dexanth makes an excellent point. however there is definitely an element of punishing positive sexuality out of puritan prudery.
Thank you so much Jake! I appreciate your thoughtful response. And yes, I agree that it's complicated, but I find it hard to believe that if the ad wasn't sexualized(or didn't feature a sexually attractive woman) that it would face this same backlash.
many years ago (15?) i read something on jezebel about olivia munn getting some job somewhere. it was kind of a hit job. there was then a meta piece about the hit job, and the reporter talking to the author of the hit job, it was pretty clear that it was what you’d call intra-sexual competition. i hadn’t really thought of this dynamic before tbh
but seen it in many places. i had a female boss once who was pretty open she didn’t want to hire women who had to report to her because her experiences were so bad (the company is defunct so i can say this now without anyone getting in trouble i think :)
Thank you for your response, Razib - Yes, I think that odd behaviors from intra-sexual competition is more common than people would like to admit among ourselves. I think it's an issue that feminists should certainly be talking about as it *does* impact women's careers.
On one hand...I agree with the overall theme; I think you have a lot of that right on the nose. On the other hand...I think this one in specific is more a case of us being in a specific moment where anything that can look remotely dog whistley in favor of the current government in power is...not looked well upon by a /lot/ of people.
Like, if we were noooot dealing with resurgent white nationalism...I'd bet this would have gone unnoticed. It's just a combination of factors that, right now, are...not great optics? Like, I know -I- don't want to spend my money anywhere that approves of this admin at all, so I'm kinda hypervigilant for that stuff.
Since posting this I've been reading and apparently this is absolutely a case of The Discourse making a mountain out of a molehill. So I shall eat some crow on that :)
Brilliant again. ❤️
Thank you always for reading :)

Human breasts are an anomaly among primates and a very correct one.
idk, to me, it's very eugenics-like propaganda.
Thanks for your comment!
